Safer Communities Grant Helps Build Stronger Neighbourhoods in Davenport Arts Starts and Lotherton Pathway Art & Safety Project receive $18,000.00 in Funding The program will introduce a series of workshops that will run 2 days per week for a 32-40 weekperiod. The first to be offered will consist of simple artistic workshops (e.g. dance, crafts, theatre, etc.)to build trust, develop relationships and establish routine within the community.

Police-led crimeprevention and safety workshops will then be integrated with the regularly scheduled artistic workshops to educate Lotherton residents.

The development and planning of a community artprojects will follow, which combines crime prevention issues and strategies with artistic interests of the community (e.g. creating sculptural lights to address lighting and safety issues in the neighbourhood, working with youth to replace graffiti with murals, theatrical productions thataddress issues and provide positive messaging including a tour of the play if budget permits.Participation in the art projects will involve members of the community and the police, which would benefit police-community relations.

The program will end with the presentation/unveiling of the community art project at a community event including the police, the artists, program participants, Arts Starts staff and local residents.
